Reflection Paper - 1011 Words

In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Ophelia says, â€Å"We know what we are, but know not what we may be.† This quote confused me for the longest time. At a young age, I was always immersed in reading throughout my life but I also limited myself to what I read. Books that I fancied to read were related to mythologies. It was not until high school that I decided to broaden my horizon when it came to reading books. During my junior year, at Bahrain High School, I was looking for a class to finish off my Fine Arts credits. I chose Beginning Drama, thinking that it was going to be an easy grade. It was not until that moment that I was introduced to a whole new world: The world of William Shakespeare. Once in the class, I received the task†¦show more content†¦I was Othello and she was Desdemona, Othello’s wife. We were doing the Act V Scene ii where Othello must kill his wife. We read the script together and we were utterly confused about what was going on because learning to read Shakespeare is a bit like learning a foreign language. While I was reading, I found it imperative that I had to articulate every word because if I did not do that, every word that I tried to say would sound garbled. After about two months, I understood the language of Shakespeare. I remember practicing in the mirror at home saying words like thee, thou, dos’t, maks’t, thy, wilt, hast, ta’en, and o’er. After reading the whole play from beginning to end twice, I fully enveloped myself as the character Othello. To become Othello, out of class I did a bit of method acting which is a technique of acting in which an actor aspires to complete emotional identification with a part, based on the system evolved by Konstantin Stanislavski. The method from Stanislavski is a set of techniques used by actors to portray emotions on stage by putting themselves in the place of the character. The reason I did this was because I wanted to stay true t o my character when performing rather than just reciting lines. Just like the movie Jumanji where the characters were thrusted into the world of the game, I too put myself in the play. Immigration has increased through out the years and President Trump has made controversial statements regarding those who are undocumented in this country. Time during his campaign, and up to his presidency, has become a heightened scrutiny for undocumented immigrants; perhaps, mainly Hispanics. Hockenberry and Puzzanchera (2016) define them as â€Å"a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race† (p3). I identify myself as a Hispanic because I was raised in Honduras, the heart of Central America, and I understand the climax that immigrants from these countries attempt to flee from. Thus, my interest in exploring more in depth the contact that Hispanic youth have with†¦show more content†¦The RRI compares the rates of juvenile justice contact experienced by different groups of youth. In the results of the analysis done by Hockenberry and Puzzanchera (2016), the RRI portrayed significance difference amongst the three ethnic groups. This comparison of the RRI is done through a simple formula: the number of an ethnic group is divided by the number of another ethnic group, considering the same entry point in the system. For example, the number court referrals done to Hispanic youth were compared between those done to white youth and black youth. As a result, researchers noticed that Hispanic youth were more likely than white, but less likely than black youth, to be referred to juvenile court. Additionally, across offense categories, Hispanic youth were more likely than white youth or black youth to be adjudicated delinquent (p 10 – 11). Thus, the focus of my paper is not how to reduce delinquency amongst Hispanic youth, rather, it is how to reduce Disproportionate Minority Confinement (DMC). Therefore, I used the work of researchers Spinney, Cohen, Feyerherm, Stephenson, Yeide, and Hopps (2016) which focuses on nine jurisdictions whom managed to reduce the disproportionate minority contact in their Juvenile Justice system. Trust me child labour is not always bad for society, there are positive sides of it as well. Working child can help to society in many way, and I am going to prove how a jobs can bright that child or society future. Alright, first of all hold on to your negative perception towards child labour and think, if child is capable of doing work, them why people are stopping them. Child labour can help in receiving good experiences from particular workplace. In addition, children can gain knowledge and learn skills such as communication or multi-tasking. This skills and knowledge can be useful for child future or society. Considering all this points, don’t you think child labour is helpful for society in a good way? What I just pointed out on one even thought about it, but there are people against child labour. People might argue that children should not be allowed to work because for them at this tender age they should be provided with an education system that will make them occupationally flexible. It’s not necessary only adult can contribute to the family income. Some woman’s are not allowed to work outside the house. No one have rights to stop a children, they can at best ensured minimum lifestyle with that income. Lastly, economic growth is most important thing for the country and guess what even child can contribute to it by working. Yes, some people go against it and say big business can also support but keep that in mind working child can help great to economy in future. Thus, child labour has positive impact on society in conjunction with its negative impact.
